Now that I’m three weeks deep in my challenge, I feel like I’m finally starting to get into my groove. Everything’s slowly coming together, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Swingy Combat
Combat is my favorite thing in TTRPGS. The problem is always walking that fine line between combat as a sport or combat as war. Personally, I think I’ve found my own happy medium. By using the dice pool/dice ladder method I’ve put together (your abilities + gear determine the die you roll), it really feels like you’re getting more powerful in combat. Using multiple dice has also made the game feel less swingy. I find that you hover around the average for your dice rolls a lot more, which has been fun.
Gear, Gear Everywhere
Who doesn’t love themselves some gear? Keeping with the gritty sci-fi aesthetic, more money roughly translates to more power. It’s a lot of fun personally to come up with the different types of gear that players would want. I’ve devised a simple yet effective gear slot system that really makes you feel like your changing yourself to specialize in different tasks.
Next Up, Hacking Rules
Yeah, this is the part I’ve been dreading… How does the Hacker class work? I’ve not fully settled on a system yet, but I’m thinking it’s going to be along the lines of having a specialized hacking deck/programs that are used, so instead of attacking during combat rounds, your team is instead protecting you while you manipulate the battlefield/landscape. I’m not really sure how it’s going to look, but we’ll see what happens.
This week was a bit more of a rambley, but I’ll try to put into detail a better description of the game as this version nears completion. After all, this is really more of my own diary of the game’s development, but hey, maybe somebody will find it interesting after all. If you’ve read this far, thanks for the time. If you want some better updates and a first look of the game before it’s out, feel free to sign up for my mailing list. I’ll also include some other goodies as well along with my general ramblings. Thanks for stopping by!
