Once again, the itch of developing my own game has struck out of nowhere. I knew I wanted to start a project that I knew I could finish, and decided it would be the perfect time for a self imposed game jam. Deciding to work on it from April 1st to May 31st, I felt that would give me a workable prototype so long as I stay on track (which has been harder than I thought it’d be!). With that said, what should I make?

My recent kick of games have been along the lines of OSR and NSR-style games. For this mini game jam, a rules light approach felt like the most appropriate. decision. From there, my idea was born.

Ideas & Inspiration

I’ve recently wanted to break out of the fantasy genre. Feeling like it’s pretty cramped with many different systems, I figured I’d like to try my hand at something a bit more out there, and a little bit more distinct. I’ve decided to make cyberpunk-futuristic game. The goal is lightweight rules, punchy combat, and leveling that makes you feel like more of a badass.

I’ve had a bit of an obsession in my hobby games to use a dice pool/dice ladder mix. To stick to true OSR/NSR fashion, there’s only skills. Based on your skill level, the larger the die you roll. Add in any equipment or weapons, and my novel dice mechanic was born

Next Steps

At this point, I think I’ve got enough groundwork and the world padded out to begin my play testing (at least for character creation and some light combat). Once I’ve done my testing, I’ll continue to fill the chapters in. Hopefully once this little jam is all over I’ll have a free quick start brochure and 0 edition free to download. We’ll see how far we get, but I’m sure it’ll be nearly complete by the time I finish my game jam.
