Welcome everyone to the third issue of the Serpent’s Tale! I will be covering exciting announcements from Voltaic Overdrive, tips & tricks, along with exciting development log updates for behind the scenes content before it hits prime time. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Tips & Tricks
When you’re running a game, make sure you’re rewarding ingenuity and thinking outside of the box, and not punishing it. Let me explain! As the game master, your primary job is to propose a problem to the players. Their job is to create the answer, not to find it. Players want agency in their games. Nobody likes to be read a book (unless you like audio books, of course), they want to bend the world to their will and leave their mark on it. If you let them create the solution (within reason, of course) reward them for their ingenuity. It’ll keep them more engaged with the game because their choices feel meaningful and like they’re actually doing something. Who knows? You might be surprised by what they come up with and what possibilities it opens the door to!
Behind the Scenes – New Game Updates 👀
If you’ve been following along to my newsletter, you know it’s no secret that I’m working on my very own TTRPG game! Melding my love of 80’s sci-fi anime with the likes of 80’s R rated action flicks, the game follows mercenaries, corporate drones, ex cons, and hackers as they try to scrape by in the city of New Houston. After MONTHS of laying out the rules, proofreading, and sending it to my closest friends to play, it’s finally a solid game with some good rules. I’m now at the point where I’m beginning to playtest sessions and combat around the table with others, and wow did I learn how much more work needs to go into it! Progress is still good, but it’s still a ways off from being shown to the world. Maybe the first look will come out in the first half of next year 👀?
